Unamandla Nkqintamo Reflects on the space between childhood dreams and realities we grew into.It draws from memories of a time when being asked “ufuna ubayintoni xa umdala’’ felt simple when answers came easily:doctor, teacher, lawyer etc…dreams that felt certain and within reach.
This body of work “I am your king’’ and “You are the light of tomorrow’’ revisits those early imaginings and the quiet distance that forms over time between who we thought we would become and who we are today.
Through textured surfaces and symbolic figures, the paintings reflect stories of
struggle, imagination, beauty, dignity and becoming. It is an invitation to reflect on where I come from and what I carry to stand in that space between dreams and
reality, and recognize the beauty, truth and resilience that lives there.
