As part of the Institut Français d’Afrique du Sud (IFAS) programme on books and ideas, and in partnership with the Alliances Françaises network, we are pleased to host a literary tour featuring Georges Lory and DaphnĂ©e Breytenbach.

The tour will present the bilingual Afrikaans – French anthology of Breyten Breytenbach’s work, Capturing the Wind, alongside Georges Lory’s book on South African writers.

Through readings and discussions, these events explore language, identity, and cultural exchange between South Africa and Europe✨

The Authors

Daphnée Breytenbach

Daphnée Breytenbach is the daughter of the renowned South African poet, writer, painter, and anti-apartheid activist Breyten Breytenbach.

Freelance journalist for L’Obs, Ubeck and RICA, as well as TV5 Monde; editorial consultant, podcast producer, and an author, DaphnĂ©e Breytenbach explores themes of identity, language, and cultural heritage between South Africa and Europe. Her writing offers a nuanced and contemporary perspective shaped by both personal and intellectual journeys.

Georges Lory
A translator, writer, and renowned specialist of Central and Balkan Europe, Georges Lory has played a key role in introducing major literary voices from these regions to French audiences. A former cultural advisor in Johannesburg and coordinator of the Alliances Françaises network, his work sits at the crossroads of literature, history, and geopolitics.
