Experience an evening of Cape jazz heritage and vibrant Goema rhythms with one of Cape Town’s most distinctive musical voices, Hilton Schilder.
Born in Lotus River and raised in a deeply musical family, his father being renowned jazz pianist and band leader Tony Schilder Hilton Schilder’s journey into music began at an early age. He performed in bands within the colourful traditions of the Kaapse Klopse, absorbing the rhythms and spirit that would shape his unique sound.
In the 1980s, Schilder co-founded The Genuines alongside Mac McKenzie, focusing on the rich Goema music traditions of the Western Cape. His work bridges Cape jazz, indigenous rhythms, and improvisation, blending heritage and innovation into a sound that is both rooted and exploratory.
Expect an evening of infectious grooves, lyrical improvisation, and stories woven through melody, a celebration of Cape Town’s musical legacy carried forward with authenticity and passion.
