Cape Town Photography Festival at Alliance Française

As part of the Cape Town Photography Festival 2026, Alliance Française du Cap is delighted to present two remarkable photographic exhibitions opening on First Thursday, 3 September at 18:00.

David Goldblatt – On The Mines
One of South Africa’s most influential documentary photographers, David Goldblatt explored the social, economic and human realities of the country throughout his career. On The Mines, begun in the 1960s, examines the mining industry and the profound influence it had on South African society, its landscapes and its people.

Tony Meintjes – The Truth Between
Spanning several decades, from the 1970s to 2025, Tony Meintjes’ exhibition brings photographs together in carefully selected diptychs. Through visual, symbolic and unexpected connections, each pairing invites us to look beyond the individual image and discover new meanings — and new truths.

The two exhibitions also bring together the work of two long-time collaborators: Tony Meintjes worked closely with David Goldblatt for many years, playing an important role in bringing Goldblatt’s photographic vision to life.
